The
Stoysich Reunion was last week and the weather was great. The kids
caught lots of fish off of the Dock. The highlight was definitely
Faye's 18" bass caught on a bobber and night crawler. The Pruss
family was here from Nebraska and the guys found lots of huge crappie!
The biggest one was 14 ½" - WOW! Many other monster
crappie over 12".

Last
week's fishing continues to be good. The Bodnum's made their yearly
trip from Illinois to catch lots of bass and a few large Pike! They
started to track down a few 18-20" bass. Wayne Ed, one of our
recommended guides took out Rick and his father in law to provide
them a few valuable pointers.

The
fishing continues to be good! The Mckenzie's came up last week and
caught tons of Bass. The Panko's made their annual trip from the
Chicago area and were not disappointed. Michael's son caught a 23"
walleye! Lots of Bass, walleye and panfish are keeping the action
going.

Memorial
Day Weekend provided a nice mix of walleye and bass fishing, as
well as a chance to enjoy the beach a little. The bass action is
hot, with the most action coming on Bass spinners in 1-3 feet of
water. The walleye have moved a bit deeper and are hitting on shiner
minnows at sunset

Crank baits, such as shadraps, floating raps, bombers and walleye
divers have been producing just at sunset.

For a change
we had wonderful weather for the great walleye opener this year!
The Poors had
great luck, bringing home their limit of walleye. The Beardsley
group had success as well. The walleye are coming very shallow
just at sunset. A couple of feet of water and it was a blast!

The
season has come to a close. What an up and down month it has been.
We started with bitter cold and very little snow and ended with warmer
temps and lots of snow. The last group of the year had some success
with a few walleye out in front of the resort in the evening, followed
by a nice bunch of pan fish on the north side of the lake the next
day.
It has been a
great winter season! We had walleye up to 31 caught, a few
northern pike over 10 pounds and more panfish than you could count.
We will start to look for warmer weather in the coming weeks. Spring
is just around the corner!
| |
The
weather the last few weeks have been bitterly cold!!! Lots of ice
on the lake and not much snow. The walleye bite has gone deeper and
most people have begun to focus on the panfish. The guys are still
able to keep the fish houses on the deeper edges of the weed beds
to find plenty of panfish and an occasional pike. |
| |
The
fish houses have been busy over the last month. Lots of panfish and
a few good pike are being caught in the usual places on the north
side of the lake. The walleye bite has started to slow, but Danny
Steidl caught a 31 walleye on the night of the 21st right in
front of the resort!
| |
The
last few weeks have been great weather! Plenty of ice for fishing
but pretty comfortable temperatures. The walleye have been hitting
well on shiners and the panfish hitting on anything. Tom Johnson and
his buddys found some great fishing just a bit north of the
resort!

Ice
came to the lake pretty early this year! We were walking on 6
of super clear, strong ice by the 11th of December. Lauren, our 6
year old caught the first walleye of the season when we were out after
school one afternoon. It was a beautiful 16 walleye, using a
fathead and plain hook. We have been having super success using chubby
darters, tipped with a minnow head the last few weeks.
By the 18th of
December after several trips out walking, we started putting houses
on the lake. The early season has been great for walleye! One hour
before and one hour after sunset has been hot! The Babcocks from
Garner Iowa had a great week, between Christmas and New Years, with
lots of walleye, perch and a surprise 8# Northern Pike, one afternoon.
Having an upset northern in a small fish house with Susan can cause
quite the commotion!
The year ended
without much snow, but lots of ice and great groups up for the New
Years get togethers in the Vacation Homes. The Steidl boys have
been checking out the usual spots for panfish and walleye, getting
ready for the fish house rental season to kick into full gear.

Well,
October was a great month! The leaves were beautiful in the early
part of the month. The weather has cooled down and the lake turned
over. The highlight of the month was definitely the Cummings group.
They come each October for 3-4 days and ALWAYS catch walleye. Several
fish caught and released over 27! Pete and his Muskie
heads came up for a few days of Muskie action and dialed them
in throwing some huge bulldogs.
The docks were
pulled off the lake a few weeks ago and we have put away all of
the boats until spring. Now we wait and watch the lake until the
ice comes and a new season of ice fishing can begin!
| |
The
last couple of weeks the weather has really cooled down. We have been
getting some rain, but the lake is still low. The highlight has to
be a beautiful 29 walleye caught by Dan from Wisconsin! They
will be back next year so Mary can get one for the wall, as well!
| |
Last
weekend was the annual Food & Wine Expo a.k.a. the Grape
Stomp at Carlos Creek Winery, just about 5 minutes from the
resort. Most of the tails for the week involved wine tasting and grape
stomping! The Kytonens however made the annual trip this time
of year and always do well on walleye and bass.
| |
Last
week we had a great group up for the Labor Day. The weather was rainy,
but some breaks in the rain allowed the fisher people to get out on
the lake. The highlight had to be Laura Holms from Urbandale, Iowa
who hooked into a 5-pound bass and 6-pound walleye in the same evening,
trolling crank baits in front of the resort! Not to be out done, her
husband Mike caught and released his first Miltona Muskie, about 38!

Last
week was a nice week. The weather is a bit cooler and the Krekelburg's
caught breakfast from the shore, with a bunch of nice sized sunfish,
on Sunday morning!

at night and found lots of panfish during the day!

Last
week was another great week at the lake! Jim Barry and his son from
Kansas had some excitement up north. Paul Johnson from
Nebraska caught his limit of walleyes on leeches & Lindy rigs,
including a beautiful 7+-pound walleye! The Curtiss and Smalley's
were up too and did well. Kent caught a 6-pound walleye.
| |
Last week was
another fun week with lots of families making their annual trip
to the lake. The Taylor's did well; 7-year-old Amy caught a nice
3+ pound walleye. The Chances caught some nice fish as well. The
Kunde's had another fun week of fishing and playing at the lake.
| |
Last
week was the annual Russell gathering. About 30 people in total and
Emily had a great time at the fishing contest, as did all the kids.
Some of the kids caught more than 100 fish each off the dock in one
afternoon! One of the Inwards kids caught a beautiful 3+ pound Bass!
Nice weather to be on the lake in the evening. The guys caught a lot
of walleye as well, mostly with slip bobbers and jumbo leeches. |

What fun last
week was! Lots of great friends making their annual trip to the
lakes. Jackie, Pam and Cheryl came up with the kids and grandkids.
They always find the sunfish & Bluegills and have a blast!
The McCabes
always manage to find a nice bunch of walleye and a few pike thrown
in, mostly trolling with leeches and bottom bouncers on the eastern
shore of the lake.. The weather has been warm all summer. Everyone
plays all day on the lake and rests well at night. I hear the air
conditioners humming when I tidy the playground and beach at night.
| |
The
Willmert's, Rogers and Sustaceks were all up for their
trip last week. Craig and Scott always do great on the walleye at
night! Mostly focusing on mid lake humps with slip bobbers or Lindys
and jumbo leeches. The kids had a great time going after lots of panfish
during the day. The Heat Wave continues!!

Last week marked
the return of some of our Muskie heads with a few guys
from the Chicago area here. The weather was Hot! A few follows and
a few hookups, but never got one in the boat. The Rivers clan was
here for their annual trip and hit the bass hard! They always find
lots & Lots of Bass. The Verberg's from Iowa were up for their
annual trip, too. They did great on panfish each afternoon right
out front of the resort.
| |
The July 4th Holiday
week provided some great weather! The Anderson clan and Schmidt
clan enjoyed the week at the lake chasing sunnies and enjoying the
beach. Ozzie and Marsha had a very successful week on the water,
with lots of fish, including some impressive walleye catches!
| |
Last
week we had the Golden family up for their yearly visit. The older
kids spent lots of time perfecting their water skiing abilities.
The water is warming up nicely! The Goldens spent several
evenings chasing walleye with good success using Jumbo Leeches.
The Folkner family and Key family spent lots of time catching panfish.
| |
Last
week we had the Stoysich gang here and the kids worked the docks hard.
As usual, in between playing on the beach and kayaks and some competitive
games of Tetherball, the Stoysich Grandkids caught many fish! |
| |
The
bass and panfish have continues to provide tons of action, while the
walleye seem to be settling into a move predictable pattern. The muskie
have turned red hot this week, with a total of 9 Muskie caught by
guests of the resort. A few monsters including a 48" and 51 1/2"
caught by Shane Heath and an awesome 53" with a 25" girth,
weighing well over 40", caught by Chris Drury, from the Chicago
Area (picture above). |
| |
Last
week, the weather was hit and miss, but the walleye bit has started
to pick up. The Stover group from Iowa found a 28" as well as
several 15-20" walleyes during their stay with us! |
| |
The
panfish and Bass have been jumping in the boat over the past week,
and the walleye bite, although inconsistent is coming around, with
minnows and jigs in deeper edges and crankbaits up shallow. |

Memorial
Day Weekend brought hot weather- highs in the upper 90's! Some of
the warmest days in the last few years. The Bass and panfish are starting
to show up under the docks and the Broderson group had a blast catching
and releasing on the lake over the long weekend. |
| |
With
the first full week of the 2006 walleye season in the books, a typical
pattern is evident! Cool weather, a few walleyes and a healthy crappie
bite can be found on Lake Miltona! |
| |
A few storms rolled
through last week and put a damper on the fishing. The Ekstedt clan
still had plenty of walleye caught. . mainly trolling crank baits.
Butch and Rob got into all kinds of fish, including a 46" muskie
that Butch caught near Tamarac Bay!
| |
The Lucy group
spent a morning with Wayne Johnson last week and came home with
5 nice walleye, along with tons of Bass and pan fish that they released!
Dennis and Rory from Iowa found a few walleye. Amy Taylor caught
her first walleye and Matt Taylor won the kids fishing contest with
a nice little Bass!
| |
The weather continued
to be beautiful last week! Walleye are still hanging on the mid
lake humps at night. Slip bobbers and leeches in 19-20' are the
ticket. Russell's, Holmes, Bucks, Erickson's and Babcock's all found
walleye. John Buck had lots of success during the day with Bass
in the reeds, real shallow. Congratulations to Laura Holmes from
Urbandale, Iowa, who caught a 4-¼ pound largemouth right
off the Dock!
| |

The weather continued
to cooperate last week. A few showers did not deter the fisherman.
Tony McCabe kept busy in front of the resort with several walleye,
two 26+" Northern and tons of small mouth bass!
| |
Last week the
weather continued to cooperate. The Boyd's from Wichita spent the
morning with Wayne Johnson and came home with 8 nice eating size
walleye.
The Roger group was back again this year and they found plenty of
Bass and pan fish.
| |
The
weather was beautiful last week! Walleye fishing was outstanding in
the evenings! Slip bobbers with leeches on a few mid-lake lumps were
the ticket for Mike and Bill from Omaha and Craig from Savage, who
all left with limits of nice walleye.
The Rivers Group
was here as well and they spent the week catching tons of Large
mouths - averaging 60-70 per day!
| |
Last
week we had the Quigley Reunion here - what a fun week! Several of
the kids from California had never been fishing, but spent much of
the week catching Bass and Panfish from the docks! Shannon caught
the winning fish this week. Just think a week ago she had never been
fishing in her life!
We cannot forget
to mention Todd who caught a 17" Walleye off the docks. That
one was a keeper!
| |
Last
week the Golden Group was back to visit and they had pretty good luck!
The guys caught several walleye in the evening and the kids kept busy
on the dock with bass and panfish.
Nick from Cabin
#5 did well each day, too, finding as few walleye as well as lots
of sunnies and Bass. Collin Golden won the kids fishing contest
with a 15" largemouth off the dock.
| |
The
Stoysich Gang was here last week and as usual, the kids spent the
week pulling in Bass and Panfish from the docks. The water temp has
come up well above 70 degrees and the swimming and beach play has
been great!
Huge congratulations
to Thomas Stoysich for his Largemouth Bass - just off the dock with
a leech and it was good enough for the largest fish for the kids
fishing contest on Wednesday. Alex also caught a nice 15" largemouth
off the dock on his birthday!

Last week brought
a mixed bag for weather
the most notable being a tornado that
made its way across the lake. Touching down just about one mile
out from the resort and heading north toward Reinhardt's point before
skipping away. No injuries or damage-but the pictures are sure a
sight to see! Fishing was impacted by the crazy weather, although
the Schultz group found a few walleye each evening. Mel from Ankeny
managed to track down the largemouth each day.

Last week gave
us as hot a Bass bite as possible! Several of our annual groups
timed this week just right! The McKenzie's and Poppe's caught 40-50
bass each day! Bass up to 4 pounds are sitting in the 1 ½
- 2 feet of water. If you are looking for lots of action this is
it!! Panfish have been hot this week as well! The Lynch kids got
their full of Sunnies and Crappies each day!

This
last weekend brought us the annual Holdingford Sportsmen's Group -
with about 20 guys this year, they caught 81 nice keepers ranging
from 14-24 inches. The smalleys once again lead the way!
The Floersh group
was here for their annual trip, as well. They spent a day with Wayne
Johnson who helped them find a beautiful stringer of 14 to 22 inch
Walleye as well as a surprise 37" Pike caught while trolling
for Walleyes.
A congratulation
also goes to our neighbors, the Reiners, who caught a 54" muskie
right off the dock on Saturday. Pictures for the proof, then they
let her go! Some guys spend a lifetime searching for a fish that
size. Glen's son tied into it right off the dock!

Memorial Day weekend
had a mix of showers and sun, but overall the weather cooperated
for the first weekend this season. The Bass did everything but jump
into the boat! Bass are shallow and very aggressive with some groups
catching 40-50 per day! The Broderson group has had great success
with the bass as well as several Northern in the 3 ½ to 4
½ range! The sunfish have begun to move shallow, as well.

Well, the ice
went out a little early and we enjoyed warm weather in April. However,
May has been another story! We had a nice group up for the fishing
opener, but the weather was typically nasty! The Potter group had
the most success with a few 3+ pound Walleye. Most of the other
groups focused on the HOT Crappie action on the West side of the
lake. Dozens of 12-14 inch Crappie have been brought in!

The last few weeks
we have been spent chopping wood for the fireplaces and thinking
about Spring. The Vold group made their winter pilgrimage to Miltona
and fished hard, with several nice Walleye to show for the efforts.
The Walleye have slowed quite a bit and are starting to think about
the spring Spawn.

We
are in the Deep freeze - with high temps in the negative numbers.
Not too much going on on the lake. The panfish remain active in the
Northeast corner of the lake. |

We
have had some bitter cold temps in the past days. The Walleye have
slowed a bit but the panfish remain active! |

Some
of our friends have found the crappie across the bay in the early
evening this week. Crappie Minnows have been working well. Sitting
on a school of crappies can provide non-stop action! Lots of 12-13"
slabs too! |
| |
Walleye
have still been pretty consistent in 18-20' of water. Shiners on Jig
heads seem to be the ticket! |

Happy 2005! We
have plenty of ice! Now we just need a few feet of snow to make
things complete. Trucks and cars are on the ice now and there is
18 - 20" of ice. Walleye continue to be predictable with the
dinner bite being most productive. Still 17 - 20' of water. We have
found the eyes every night out front!!!!

Merry Christmas!
Matt and I set out on the ice a few times to find a few walleye
and Matt caught his first two fish through the ice. One foot of
ice with a few more inches each night.

just before and after sunset.

The lake froze
over completely within the last 24 hours! Bitter cold is forecast
so we hope to have enough ice by the weekend for foot traffic.

Lots of wind and
bitter cold as thoughts turn to the holidays! I am keeping one eye
on the ice...still waiting for the lake to freeze over.

The weather has
turned cool and the boat traffic has died down. Walleye are to be
had at the drop off right in front of Vacation Home #6 though.

The Dahlk group
got into the walleye in a big way with limits to take home as well
as walleye on the menu each night!! Definitely some of the nicest
stringers of the fall!
| |
Wind and bitter
cold was the theme of the past weekend. The Garbina group found
a few walleye, including one that was 23 - 24". Matt and I
braved the cold and snowflakes on Saturday for one last fishing
trip before we put the boat away for the winter. We found a few
as well!

The docks came
out this weekend. Cool and windy fall like weather and not too many
people interested in finding the walleyes.

My dad was up
this week. We had the chance to spend a few hours on the lake and
caught a few keepers each night. He still can outdo me on the cribbage
board and on the boat...but I guess that's okay. My dad used to
bait my hook, untangle lines and tell me fishing stories when I
was a kid. Now I find myself helping him with bait and giving him
a hand getting on and off the boat. When I was a kid I am sure my
dad got lots of pleasure taking us kids fishing...it's kind of nice
to be able to return the favor. Fishing definitely is a special
bond between fathers and their sons!
